CyberSecurity Community of Champions

(ISC)2 Hellenic Chapter is the largest community of CyberSecurity professionals at Greece. Chapter’s activities aim at supporting CyberSecurity professionals, advancing the profession, promoting synergies within the sector and augmenting cybersecurity awareness in Greece.

Chapter’s Members, esteemed cybersecurity professionals, are more than 300. The Chapter has been the recipient of local and global recognition and awards.

Here is a video containing some of our activities that took place within 2022.

Open Conference 2022

Our Membership Chair, Argyris Makrygeorgou, represented (ISC)2 Hellenic Chapter at Open Conf 2022. He informed existing Members who visited our booth about our latest news and also informed prospective Members about the benefits of joining our Chapter.

He was doing such a magnificent job that even our President, Dimitrios Patsos, visited the booth to be informed!

International (ISC)2 Chapter Conference

The first International (ISC)² Chapter Conference took place at the virtual platform Gather.Town, on the 1st of December 2022 and it was a blast!

It was organised by many (ISC)² Chapters all over the world and attracted the attention of many hundreds of (ISC)2 Chapter Members globally, setting the bar high for similar conferences! Shout out to the organising Chapters: (ISC)2 New Jersey Chapter, (ISC)2 Israel chapter, (ISC)2 Poland Chapter, (ISC)2 Belux Chapter, (ISC)2 Dutch Chapter and (ISC)2 Hellenic Chapter.

Our Honorary Chapter Member, Yiannis Koukouras, delivered an intriguing presentation about SDLC. Marnix Dekker, invited as a keynote speaker by our Chapter, informed us on the roadmap from NIS1 to NIS2 and the ENISA NIS Strategy.

Finally, being part of the Organising Commitee, our Board Member John ILIADIS stepped in when a speaker informed the Commitee he could not make it to the conference due to unforeseen circumstances, and delivered a presentation about the way Cyber Risk has been transforming the past few years.

The feedback we received so far from people who attended the conference is phenomenal, leading the International (ISC)2 Chapter Commitee to decide that this was only the first out of many International (ISC)2 Chapter Conferences to come 😀

Stay tuned!

IELKA Conference

We were honoured to be invited to the yearly conference of Ινστιτούτο Έρευνας Λιανεμπορίου Καταναλωτικών Αγαθών(ΙΕΛΚΑ). This year the topic was “The agile Era: Doing business in extreme environment” and it took place virtually.

Our Membership Chair, Argyris Makrygeorgou, discussed what are the effects of cyber attacks on enterprises and the controls that need to be in place to mitigate pertinent risk.

Physical-attendance Chapter Event @ OTE Academy

Our physical-attendance event at OTE Academy on the 24th of November was fun and intriguing, to say the least!

We shared Chapter’s news with our Members and we ‘ve let everyone know that (ISC)² CC certification (https://lnkd.in/deexPzem) is gaining more traction, day by day. 20 people certified already in Greece! One of them, George Smyrlis, was there to share his experience with us.
Nikos Simos delivered an interesting DevSecOps presentation; after the discussion panel took place, we realised it’s probably worth repeating this one as a DevSecPrivOps presentation 😉
George Aslanidis delivered an intriguing presentation on Zero Trust, detailing its foundations and giving out practical examples of actual Zero Trust implementations, thus removing some of the fuzziness accompanied by the fashionable “Zero Trust” terminology.
Last, but not least, we enjoyed a thought-provoking panel comprising of Lefteris TzelepisTheodoros Ntouskas, Professor Kostas LAMPRINOUDAKIS and Professor Kalloniatis Christos, moderated by John ILIADIS. The panel discussed the way Security & Privacy risk management potentially leads toward a unified approach with respect to controls that reduce said risks.
It seems the topics spurred even more interesting and lengthy discussions than anticipated, so we had to extend the duration of our event by an hour!

Infocom World

Our Board Member, Dimitris Georgiou, delivered an intriguing presentation at this year’s Infocom World. He talked about (in)secure communications, challenging established views and providing food for thought to conference participants.

Thank you, Vlasis Amanatidis, for the invite and for organising yet another conference with established sector representatives as speakers.

Bank Management Conference

Our President, Dimitrios Patsos, moderated a panel at the 20th Bank Management Conference (https://lnkd.in/dZpmpkG). The panel, comprising of representative experts from the banking sector, explored ways to improve #customerengagement and #customercentricity through the use of hybrid models and smart services.

We would like to extend our thanks to BOUSSIAS and Vicky Pavlatou for organizing yet another interesting conference, filled with intriguing discussion topics and pioneering representatives from the banking sector.

CyberSecurity Awareness @ Argyroupoli

Our Secretary Panagiotis Soulos and our Chapter Member Ioanna Dima delivered an awareness session at the 2nd Lower Secondary School of Argyroupoli, using the Safe and Secure Online content of the Center for Cyber Safety and Education, the charitable foundation of (ISC)².

It was a full house and we enjoyed delivering this to so many people!

Bank Management Conference

Our President, Dimitrios Patsos, will be moderating a panel comprising of IT & Finance leaders in this year’s Bank Management Conference. Hybrid models and smart services gaining momentum by improving customer engagement? It will be a stimulating discussion for sure!

Thank you, Vicky Pavlatou and BOUSSIAS, for another Conference with great content and for the invite!

Our Training Officer, George Aslanidis, will attend the conference. If part of your CyberSec team has just obtained the brand new “Certified in Cybersecurity” certification and you are thinking about having them reach Gold Standard CyberSecurity status (CISSP), then contact him by all means; he will show you the ropes. If you are thinking about Cloud but are having second thoughts about Security, then contact him also; he ‘ll let you know about the Cloud Security certification (CCSP) that (ISC)2 Hellenic Chapter has just brought to Greece with (ISC)² certified instructors, following public demand.

Our Membership Chair, Argyris Makrygeorgou, will also attend the event. If you have any questions regarding Membership to the internationally awarded (ISC)2 Hellenic Chapter, he is your man.

CyberSecurity Awareness Event – We ‘ve been invited

Our efforts to increase public CyberSecurity Awareness continue at an unrelenting pace!

We ‘ve been invited by the 2nd Lower Secondary School of Argyroupoli to deliver an awareness session to the teenagers and parents of the school (https://lnkd.in/dXQe3KmZ). We ‘ll be using the Safe and Secure Online content of the Center for Cyber Safety and Education, the charitable foundation of (ISC)².

Our Secretary Panagiotis Soulos and our Chapter Member Ioanna Dima will be there to deliver this session.

Upcoming Chapter Event – 24th of November – OTE Academy

Want a sneak peek into our next physical attendance event on the 24th of November?

Agile and DevOps; do they come with CyberSecurity built-in, or is it another case of adding it a posteriori? Nikolaos Simos will be there to guide us; everything you wanted to know but were afraid to ask in his presentation “Security in Agile and Devops World”

Trust. Nobody? Everybody? Paradigm shift during the years of the Great Digital Catalyst (aka COVID-19)? Giorgos Aslanidis will let us know all about it in his presentation titled “Trust Nobody, Verify Everybody”.

Risk Assessment; qualitative or quantitative? Privacy vs Security: the Big Match or the Great Friends? A zero-sum game or two sides of the same coin? What changed with respect to Cyber Risk and Privacy during the years of COVID-19? Lefteris Tzelepis, Theodoros Ntouskas and Professors Kostas Lamprinoudakis and Christos Kalloniatis will lead this discussion!

(ISC)2 Hellenic Chapter Members in good standing can register until the 22nd of November 18:00, using this form: https://isc2-chapter.gr/members-area/.

Shooting for the stars? Just another day in the office for the internationally-awarded (ISC)2 Hellenic Chapter.

ICT Security & DPO Conference

Οur Treasurer, Dimitris Georgiou, represented (ISC)2 Hellenic Chapter at this year’s “DPO & ICT Security World”. He presented an interesting SWOT analysis of Cloud adoption, providing the conference participants with a peek inside several Cloud issues many people never think of. It was a blast!

Also, our (ISC)2 Hellenic Chapter Members Kiki Tsourou and Konstantina Syntila presented several facts supporting the argument that an increased data privacy posture leads to cyber resilient services. This dynamic duo aptly delivered a fresh look on the intricate relationship between privacy and security, along with pointers toward leveraging this relationship in order to increase the value delivered to stakeholders.

Cyber Risk Article @ InfoSec Professional

We ‘ve been invited to submit an article to the magazine that has been emblematic of (ISC)² thought leadership activities and initiatives. We were deeply honoured, as this issue (Nov-Dec 2022) will be the last edition of (ISC)² membership magazine, at least as we’ve known it for the past 15 years. Beginning in January, a new content platform will be presented with a global focus.

Our Board Member, John ILIADIS, wrote this intriguing article providing a different take on Cyber Risk management. It’s one of the four featured articles in the  Nov-Dec 2022 issue of (ISC)² InfoSecurity Professional.

In the third video of this series, we find out that any personal data we post online, stay there forever. Should anyone gain access to them, he can use them to hurt us, many years after we originally posted them. Any personal data we post render us vulnerable and end up being a Trojan Horse to our personal life and safety.

You want the whole planet to know about it, forever? Just post it on social media!

BOUSSIAS Information Security Conference 2022

We really enjoyed BOUSSIAS Information Security Conference 2022; a lot of interesting talks and many members of (ISC)2 Hellenic Chapter offering thought leadership on contemporary matters, via speeches and discussion panels.

Our Treasurer, Dimitris Georgiou, represented (ISC)2 Hellenic Chapter and gave one of the opening speeches at BOUSSIAS Information Security Conference 2022, offering an overview of major InfoSec trends that are here to stay.

He informed the public about the new (ISC)² entry-level certification and about the fact that UK NARIC has found CISSP to be comparable to an InfoSec postgraduate degree.

He also let the conference participants know that most of (ISC)² certifications have been established as de facto or de jure standards (e.g. U.S. DoD 8140/8570) for establishing one’s knowledge and real-world experience in matters of Information Security.

John ILIADIS also represented our Chapter while presenting the (ISC)2 Cybersecurity Workforce Study that took place during 2021. According to the Study, the global market is looking for 2.72 million InfoSec pros but they are nowhere to be found. Join the ranks!

More info about this 2.72mil gap and the way organisations all over the world are trying to fill this gap can be found in the presentation contained herein and in the Cybersecurity Workforce Study available publicly.

Also, John ILIADIS, moderated a discussion panel of Information Security experts at BOUSSIAS Information Security Conference 2022. The panel discussed the reasons why communication between InfoSec executives and BoDs may be hindered by the subjectivity of qualitative RA along with solutions to overcome this. The panel also discussed ways to facilitate a BoD towards identifying its risk appetite and techniques to reduce the perception gap between InfoSec executives and BoDs regarding the integration of digital resilience in enterprise risk. Moreover, the panel discussed the findings of the recently published European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) Interoperable EU Risk Management Framework Report.

The experienced professionals that participated in the panel and provided valuable and updated information on the aforementioned matters were Lefteris TzelepisGeorge TsinosChristos Syngelakis , Panagiotis Soulos and Konstantinos Andreopoulos.

Social Media; should our children be cautious?

Could a teenage football team win a match by spying the social media of their opponents? In the first video of this series, we learn the reason why we should be cautious about the kind and quantity of personal data we share over social media.

Seize the opportunity, while there’s still time for it!

5th InsurTech Conference 2022

Our Treasurer, Dimitris Georgiou, talked about contemporary digital forensics techniques at the 5th annual InsurTech conference organised by BOUSSIAS; he presented ways to improve the cyberinsurance claim validation and investigation procedure.

(ISC)² New Year Party!

We had a great time on the 27th of January, at our New Year’s Party; vivid discussions regarding incident response, cyber resilience and upcoming security-related regulations, among others. Cheers to all our members for brainstorming on topics the Chapter should provide more info, during 2022 at our members-only events.

What’s most important, we enjoyed each other’s company, we had fun and we had the opportunity to cut our virtual New Year’s Cake! There were six lucky pennies this year, in the cake 🙂

Our members who won the first three lucky pennies will be receiving exciting gifts on behalf of the Chapter, while the next three pennies brought along a 100% discount coupon for our Chapter’s 1-year membership fee.

Unfortunately, the commemorative photo couldn’t fit us all. A virtual gathering always falls short, compared to a physical one. Hopefully, next year we will have the chance to have our New Year’s Party at an actual physical location, with physical attendance, mingling and enjoying each other’s company.

We wish you a very successfull and secure New Year. Above all, stay safe and healthy!

(ISC)² New Year Party coming up

Our chapter is having the New Year Party on Thursday, January 27th 2022, 19:00. You are all invited!

Chapter Members in good standing who will participate in the event will enter a draw to win one out of three lucky pennies, each one corresponding to one of the following gifts:

–A TP-Link Deco M5 kit of 3 APs
–A Google Nest Hub

Anyone from the public who will participate in the event will enter a draw to win one out of three lucky pennies; each one of those pennies corresponds to a 1-year membership to our Chapter, free of charge!

Besides that, we’re holding a public talk with contemporary topics that concern us all, namely:
–Supply Chain
–Cloud Security
–Zero Trust
–Productivity Tools vs Security & Privacy

The event will, of course, be interactive and you could join in our discussion and also propose adhoc subjects.
