Global Chapter Leaders Summit

We had an amazing time, on June 27th 2023 at the Global Chapter Leaders Summit organised by (ISC)². It was fun and productive, to have (ISC)2 Chapters from all over the world exchange experiences and best practices. It really provided us with some ideas in order to take things one step further, for our Chapter.

Our President John ILIADIS was there, discussing ways to achieve engaging member communications; he was honoured to share a session with Chris Green, (ISC)2 Head of PR and Communications – EMEA, who announced some pretty amazing Communications initiatives on behalf of (ISC)2 for all Chapters.

13th Infocom Security 2023 Conference review 

Insightful discussions, valuable insights, and a great networking opportunity – that’s what 13th Infocom Security 2023 Conference was all about!

We would like to extend our congratulations to Vlasis Amanatidis for his exceptional efforts in organizing such a successful event.

It was a great privilege to have so many of our Members share their insights and expertise during the event:

◾ Our President, John ILIADIS, outlined some of the biggest, current #CyberSecurity challenges, including the increase in people’s vulnerability to social engineering attacks and the way this has affected breach attempts, some of social psychology’s lessons learned we have to take into consideration while increasing the diversity of our teams, the (r)evolution that takes place with respect to #CyberRisk and #CloudSecurity issues. He concluded that cultivating the proper Cybersecurity Culture and increasing organizational Cybersecurity Maturity should be a goal we should all strive to achieve.

◾ Our Members Panagiotis Anagnostou, Nikolaos Grigoriadis and Audit Committee Member Panagiotis Soulos, participated in a panel named “The Evolving Role of CISOs in the age of Hybrid Business Environment – Leadership, Responsibilities and Skills”. The panel was expertly moderated by our own Panagiotis Kalantzis. During the discussion, they analyzed the role of #CISO ‘s (Chief Information Security Officers), as well as professionals employed in the field of information security more broadly, and how it is constantly evolving and adapting to both the demands created by the changing threat landscape and the overall changes brought about by the digital transformation of organizations. They also discussed the requirement for aligning security with all business processes.

◾ Our Board member Dimitris Georgiou and our member Spiros Pitikaris talked about how Digital Forensics services going far beyond the typical root cause analysis can help InfoSec departments successfully meet the demands of Security #incidents, especially when the pool of stakeholders extends to executives from Legal, Data #Privacy, Upper Management, and even Regulators or Law Enforcement.

◾ Our Board Member, Spiros Kyriacopoulos, gave an insightful speech on “Safeguarding Web Apps & APIs with inter-Cloud Security.” He shared his expertise on how to protect #webapplications and #APIs using inter-cloud security measures.

◾ Our Board Member Konstantina Syntila delivered a speech on how to de-risk vulnerabilities and save time. She discussed the importance of identifying and prioritizing vulnerabilities based on their potential impact, and demonstrated how a risk-based vulnerability management platform, can help organizations effectively manage their #vulnerabilities.

◾ Last but not least, Argyris Makrygeorgou, the Chair of our Audit Committee, delivered an insightful speech titled “Lack of knowledge is not the users’ fault!”. In his speech, he highlighted the importance of cybersecurity education for end-users and how it can significantly reduce the risk of cyberattacks. He also discussed the responsibility of organizations to provide their employees with the necessary training and tools to protect themselves and the company’s data.

Overall, it was an enriching experience that reminded us of the importance of cultivating a strong cybersecurity culture and increasing organizational cybersecurity maturity.

We had a fantastic time yesterday at (ISC)2 Hellenic Chapter‘s SecTalk on Social Engineering!

We would like to extend our gratitude to the distinguished panelists, Theodoros Ntouskas, Panagiotis Soulos, Argyris Makrygeorgou, and Thanassis Diogos, for sharing their expertise in an insightful discussion. We also would like to congratulate our very own Events Officer Spiros Kyriacopoulos, for organizing and moderating such a fantastic event.

During the event, the panel explored a range of topics, including whether it is the user’s fault if they fall victim to a malicious link, and what steps can be taken after such an incident. They also discussed the role of user awareness in preventing Social Engineering attacks, as well as the potential implications of Social Engineering in the context of AI, Quantum Computing, and the Metaverse.

We would also like to thank all the participants who joined us for the lively and insightful post-panel discussion. It was a pleasure to see so much engagement and interest in the topic.

Cloud Computing Conference 2023 by BOUSSIAS

We were deeply honoured to deliver one of the opening speeches at Cloud Computing Conference 2023, organised by BOUSSIAS.

George Fetokakis assembled a team of expert speakers and panelists for this one, while Grigoris Grammenos aptly coordinated the event throughout the day. Our President, John ILIADIS, delivered the weather forecast for the coming period, predicting that “sunny days are over” 😉 He presented the way Cloud can become a comparative advantage for a business in the long term and discussed why #Cloud and #CyberSecurity are inextricably linked. He ended up underlining that one must pay attention to the Exit Signs upon entering Cloud Hotel, lest it starts resembling Hotel California 😉

We also had the unique opportunity to pick the brains of prominent colleagues, discussing all hot cloud topics. John ILIADIS moderated a panel comprising of Panagiotis Anagnostou, Nikos Platis, Dimitris Stathopoulos, Nikolaos Agritelis and Dimitris Topkas. These distinguished panelists presented the reasons why Cloud investment keeps increasing, at the expense of on-premise investment, even though there might not be a direct financial benefit sometimes! It seems there are many other -direct and indirect- benefits for a company to go Cloud. The panel also discussed the main #cyberrisks posed by #cloudadoption and ways to treat those risks. The panel concluded by outlining the way Cloud has even penetrated the #iot world, delivering innovative solutions and never-before-seen benefits!

Big part of our success comes from the fact that (ISC)² is always there for us Chapters, advising us on next steps, helping us reach our fullest potential and then some!

Quite a lot of people have been asking if there’s some secret recipe leading to our success.  Since this is a closed group and word will not get out, we can share the secret with you ❗

Success stems directly from our 300 Members, our Sponsors and our Supporters. They are the ones who help us stay the course towards delivering more and more, month by month. They are the ones volunteering their expertise in thought leadership activities and volunteering their time in security awareness actions.

All 300 of our Members should be there, receiving these awards. For practical reasons we couldn’t fit 300 persons up there, so we went with the next best thing. Awards were received on Tuesday, 7th of March by a selection of BoD Members, both from this one and the previous BoD of (ISC)2 Hellenic Chapter.

Before presenting the new BoD, we have to acknowledge the hard, dilligent work all past BoD members have already put in. The constant, substantial contribution of all Chapter BoD Members mentioned in this article was a sufficient condition for (ISC)2 Hellenic Chapter to be formed in 2015 and grow to unforeseen size and importance by 2023.

However, none of this would have happened without the necessary condition being there, i.e. the global (ISC)² contribution to all Chapters’ success, with too many professionals to mention all of them in just a few pages. They are the ones who made sure the right global conditions were there for (ISC)² Hellenic Chapter (as well as other Chapters globally) to grow and flourish, no matter what adverse circumstances we had to face.

Jon France, Tara Wisniewski and Clar Rosso thank you for honouring us with your presence in events of ours, celebrating our regional success towards advancing the profession and increasing public cybersecurity awareness; also, a big thanks for demanding more and more from us, and for providing valuable advice over time.

Natasha Karelina, well, what can we say. Whenever we need to interface with (ISC)2 you have been a ultra-efficient and ultra-effective one stop shop for us! We should probably consider creating a named, permanent Board of Directors seat just for you! Cheers!

Ariana Portillo, MPA, Megan Gagnon and Chris Pipes, thanks for all the advice over the years! (ISC)2 Hellenic Chapter wouldn’t also be a very successful Official Training Provider (OTP) without your assistance!

Last, but not least, Yiannis Pavlosoglou.  You ‘ve joined some of our recent Chapter events and you ‘ve already provided super-useful guidance! It means a lot for us, and we thank you very much for having given us the chance to pick your brain; your vast experience in the field is much appreciated!

We could go on and on, thanking many tens of people who have been there for (ISC)² Hellenic Chapter, both globally and regionally, but this is probably not the place for it. You know who you are and we won’t forget to keep thanking you, every chance we get.

The Secret Sauce

(don’t tell anyone about it)

Using many techniques (5 Whys, Delphi etc), we have been thinking long and hard about the reasons, the root causes for (ISC)² Hellenic Chapter’s sustained levels of success. We are Greeks after all, so we tend to philosophize a lot 😉

Each and every time, we ‘ve reached the same conclusion. The secret sauce of success: our Members; they are just priceless!  They are the ones who demand more and more from (ISC)² Hellenic Chapter, they are the ones who enjoy our services and help us stay the course towards delivering even more. They are the ones volunteering their time in order to achieve the impossible, both locally and globally.

So, here’s a big shout-out to our precious Members, all 300 of them!

InfoSec Conference by BOUSSIAS

While holding our (ISC)2 Hellenic Chapter BoD elections, we had both candidate BoD Members of ours (https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7028604239014727680) as well as current BoD Members of ours (https://isc2-chapter.gr/about-us/officers/) participating in this year’s BOUSSIAS InfoSec conference (https://www.eits.gr/agenda).

Dimitris Georgiou, a current Board Member and a Candidate Board Member for the next 2-year term, delivered the latest trends and intriguing stats regarding our profession, using data from our most recent global Workforce Study (https://www.isc2.org/Research/Workforce-Study).

John ILIADIS, a current Board Member and a Candidate Board Member for the next 2-year term, moderated a panel of cybersecurity experts dicsussing the future of cyber risk, including Sokratis Katsikas, Dimitris Manolis (Dimitris is a Candidate Board Member for the next 2-year term), George Tsinos, Panagiotis Kalantzis and Pavlos Gerardos.

Keeping up the pace of increasing security awareness

What was that you asked about? Election results? Stay tuned….

Whilst preparing for our annual General Assembly and biannual BoD elections that took place yesterday, we had the chance to deliver yet another cybersecurity awareness session at the 4th Elementary School of Palaio Faliro. Panagiotis Soulos and Ioanna Dima delivered this one.

We ‘re often been asked what is the secret ingredient of our ultra-successful efforts towards increasing the cybersecurity awareness of the public. Well, it’s a two-parter:

#1 – Producing animated videos along with psychologists and other colleagues to increase cybersecurity awareness of kids, ensuring they will be viewed and enjoyed by tens of thousands of children and parents!

#2 – Keep on delivering tailored onsite cybersecurity awareness sessions to organisations, schools and parents associations, ensuring we cover all needs as frequently as possible!

Our Board Members John ILIADIS and Lefteris Tzelepis participated in panels moderated respectively by Panagiotis Papagiannakopoulos and Alexandra Michota, Ph.D. at the event “𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝘆𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆: “𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗰𝗲𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴” 𝙃𝙤𝙬 𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙡𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙞𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚“, organised by E&Y and Women4Cyber Greece.

Mini Event & Επαναληπτική ΓΣ

Έχουμε προετοιμάσει όμορφες εκπλήξεις για τα μέλη μας, την Πέμπτη 23 Φεβρουαρίου 2023 στην OTEAcademy, Πέλικα & Σπάρτης 1, 15122 – Μαρούσι.
 
Πριν τη διεξαγωγή της Επαναληπτικής Ετήσιας Γενικής Συνέλευσης, θα λάβει χώρα ένα mini event. Κατόπιν αιτημάτων πολλών μελών, ο George Aslanidis θα παρουσιάσει μία επέκταση της ομιλίας που είχε δώσει στα τέλη Νοεμβρίου 2022, με θέμα “Trust Nobody, Verify Everybody”.
 
Εκτός αυτού, έχουμε ετοιμάσει ένα όμορφο και χρηστικό δώρο για όλα τα ταμειακώς ενήμερα μέλη μας, το οποίο θα διανεμηθεί κατά τη διάρκεια της διεξαγωγής των αρχαιρεσιών για νέα όργανα διοίκησης.  🙂

Information Security Conference

The 10th BOUSSIAS Information Security conference is just around the corner.

One of our Board Members, Dimitris Georgiou, will be presenting the latest (ISC)² Workforce Study, delivering interesting survey results regarding the future of the profession.

Another one of our Board Members, John ILIADIS, will be moderating a discussion on Cyber Risk with distinguished panelists including Professor Sokratis Katsikas, Professor Lilian Mitrou, George Tsinos and (ISC)2 Hellenic Chapter Members Dimitris Manolis, Panagiotis Kalantzis and Pavlos Gerardos.

6th InsurTech Conference

Our Board Member Dimitris Georgiou delivered one of the opening speeches at BOUSSIAS 6th InsurTech conference, providing a short overview of the emerging, challenging cybersecurity environment Insurance operates in.

Also, our Member Kiki Tsourou moderated a panel discussing Privacy & Cybersecurity issues in Insurance with a panel of distinguished field experts. The panel comprised of Nikos Georgopoulos, Stelios Anagnostakis (both Members of (ISC)2 Hellenic Chapter) and George Tsinos.

The Sofitel conference room was fully packed to the end, thanks to the excellent choice of content and speakers. Cheers Vicky Pavlatou!

New Year Party 2023

What a night! Our New Year Party that took place on the 19th of January was a blast!

Quite many of our Members had the chance to meet up physically after a long time and we shared many news and laughs. Some of us couldn’t help it and started talking shop, as well 😉

We had planned a lucky draw with presents for five of our Members. However, RED.comm, our PR & Marketing sponsor, announced at the very last minute a New Year surprise for our Members, bringing along 3 more presents, thus raising the total number of our Members that walked away with magnificent presents to eight! Thank you Stella Tsitsoula 🥂

We were all happy to see each other and can’t wait to meet up again.

We ‘re already organising a mini event for our Members, which will take place on the 23rd of February 2023, along with the Repeat General Assembly. More about that event in a few days…

Πρόσκληση των Μελών του Σωματείου με την Επωνυμία «Διεθνές Ινστιτούτο Πιστοποίησης Ασφάλειας Πληροφοριακών Συστημάτων – Ελληνικό Παράρτημα» και τον Διακριτικό Τίτλο “(ISC)² Hellenic Chapter” σε Τακτική Γενική Συνέλευση & Εκλογές

Αγαπητά μέλη του (ISC)² Hellenic Chapter,

Το ΔΣ του Σωματείου συγκαλεί τα μέλη του στην Ετήσια Τακτική Γενική Συνέλευση την Πέμπτη 16 Φεβρουαρίου 2023 και ώρα 19:00 στην OTE Academy, Πέλικα & Σπάρτης 1, 15122 – Μαρούσι, ή σε περίπτωση που δεν επιτευχθεί απαρτία, την Πέμπτη 23 Φεβρουαρίου 2023 την ίδια ώρα και στον ίδιο τόπο. Τα θέματα της Ημερήσιας Διάταξης είναι:

1. Εκλογή Προέδρου και Γραμματέα της Γενικής Συνέλευσης.
2. Διοικητικός απολογισμός και πεπραγμένα έτους 2022 και έγκριση αυτών, Έγκριση ισολογισμού 2022 και προϋπολογισμού 2023, έγκριση του συνόλου των ενεργειών του ΔΣ και απαλλαγή του ΔΣ από κάθε ευθύνη.
3. Έκθεση Ελεγκτικής Επιτροπής και έγκριση αυτής και απαλλαγή της Ελεγκτικής Επιτροπής από πάσα ευθύνη.
4. Ενημέρωση για τη λήξη της θητείας του απερχόμενου ΔΣ και της Ελεγκτικής Επιτροπής και για τη διαδικασία των αρχαιρεσιών και εκλογή τριμελούς Εφορευτικής Επιτροπής για την εποπτεία των αρχαιρεσιών για την ανάδειξη νέου ΔΣ και νέας Ελεγκτικής Επιτροπής.
5. Έγκριση πίνακα υποψηφίων και ψηφοδελτίων για την εκλογή νέου ΔΣ και νέας Ελεγκτικής Επιτροπής.
6. Διενέργεια αρχαιρεσιών για τα νέα όργανα διοίκησης.

Χρήσιμες Πληροφορίες και Δήλωση Υποψηφιότητας:

• Δήλωση υποψηφιότητας μπορούν να υποβάλλουν με έγγραφη αίτηση όσα μέλη πληρούν τις προϋποθέσεις του Άρθρου 8* του καταστατικού (δείτε κατωτέρω στη σημείωση με αστερίσκο), από σήμερα έως και τα μεσάνυχτα της Δευτέρας 6 Φεβρουαρίου 2023 προκειμένου να συμπεριληφθούν στον πίνακα υποψηφίων. Όλες οι υποψηφιότητες θα κοινοποιηθούν στα μέλη του Σωματείου. Μπορείτε να δηλώσετε υποψηφιότητα σε αυτήν την σελίδα.
• Η προσέλευση ξεκινά στις 18:30 και η έναρξη της ΓΣ στις 19:00. Οι αρχαιρεσίες θα διεξαχθούν την ίδια ώρα και στον ίδιο τόπο με τη ΓΣ κατά τα προβλεπόμενα στο Καταστατικό.
• Δικαίωμα συμμετοχής και ψήφου έχουν όλα τα μέλη που έχουν τακτοποιήσει τις οικονομικές υποχρεώσεις τους έως την έναρξη της ΓΣ, δηλαδή έως και την Πέμπτη 16 Φεβρουαρίου 2023 ή 23 Φεβρουαρίου 2023 αντίστοιχα σε περίπτωση επαναληπτικής ΓΣ και ώρα 19:00.
• Στις εκλογές σημειώνετε έως τέσσερεις (4) σταυρούς προτίμησης παραπλεύρως των ονομάτων ισαρίθμων υποψηφίων για το Δ.Σ. και έως τρεις (3) σταυρούς προτίμησης παραπλεύρως των ονομάτων ισαρίθμων υποψηφίων για την Ελεγκτική Επιτροπή με μπλε ή μαύρο στυλό.

Κατά τις εργασίες της ΓΣ, κάθε Μέλος μπορεί να εκπροσωπήσει μέχρι τρία (3) ακόμα μέλη με γραπτή εξουσιοδότηση με θεωρημένο γνήσιο υπογραφής, που θα προσκομίσει κατά την έναρξή της. Όσοι παρασταθείτε στη ΓΣ καλείστε να φέρετε πάνω σας κάποιο επίσημο έγγραφο (πχ δίπλωμα οδήγησης ή αστυνομική ταυτότητα) προς ταυτοποίησή σας.

*Βάσει του άρθρου 8 του καταστατικού, – υποψηφιότητα για το ΔΣ μπορούν να θέσουν μόνο τα τακτικά μέλη που είναι οικονομικώς ενήμερα. Επιπλέον, δεν πρέπει να είναι μέλη ΔΣ ή άλλης Επιτροπής Διοίκησης σε άλλο Σωματείο ή Ένωση που να επιδιώκει τον ίδιο σκοπό με το (ISC)2 Hellenic Chapter, καθώς επίσης δεν πρέπει να έχουν καταδικαστεί σε οποιοδήποτε έγκλημα, συμμετοχή σε έγκλημα ή να έχουν διωχθεί πειθαρχικά από οποιοδήποτε επαγγελματικό οργανισμό ή δημόσια υπηρεσία. – Υποψηφιότητα για την Ελεγκτική Επιτροπή μπορούν να θέσουν τα τακτικά, συνδεδεμένα και επίτιμα μέλη που είναι οικονομικώς ενήμερα.

InsurTech Conference

The 6th InsurTech conference is coming up! Insurance is one of the sectors undergoing a transformation due to the rapidly changing cyber environment and new regulations.
